Bring It!

Howdy UMW friends!

This is the time of year I can say that because the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show, Exposition and Rodeo is in town.  The theme this year is “Bring It!”  I think that’s what United Methodist Women has been doing for over 140 years.  But there is much work still to do improving the lives of women, children and youth worldwide. And we need you!  Remember the mission studies we had this past year? They deal with tough topics like immigration, poverty and the situation in Haiti trying to rebuild after their devastating earthquake in 2010.  United Methodist Women adopted the Charter for Racial Justice Policies years before even the United Methodist Church did.  I think it’s fair to say that United Methodist Women lead the way on social justice issues.

This weekend is the Legislative Event in Austin and regarding the 2013 United Methodist Women’s Legislative Priorities know that we will “Bring It!” to your attention at Sing-a-Rainbow, February 16, at Joshua UMC.  Registration begins at 9am and the program begins at 10am. I hope you and all your United Methodist Women sisters are registered for this great event.  There’s no cost to you.  Now I know we are notorious for registering late – sometimes very late – but “Now is the time” to step up and make a commitment to attend and register.

The Joshua United Methodist Women are looking forward to your coming.  They’re preparing now with their radical hospitality and they do need to know how many tables and chairs to set up.  Several United Methodist Women’s local organizations around Joshua are co-hosting breakfast treats – St. Mark in Cleburne, Burleson, Crowley and Godley.   For lunch we’re asking you to bring a family favorite to share because the morning session, led by Mahlon Hight and Josephine Lopez Paul, will focus on the family.  They are leaders in Allied Communities of Tarrant (ACT) and will share many experiences and ideas with you.

Other Sing-a-Rainbow reminders: Our United Methodist Women sisters from the North Texas Conference will join us for the day.  We’ll have great singing and an inspiring program.  There will be a silent auction for missions.  United Methodist Women resources will be available as well as childcare.  So United Methodist Women of Central Texas Conference register now for Sing-a-Rainbow, February 16, on the ctcumw.org web site or by mail with: Theresa Robinson, 3129 Briardale, Fort Worth, TX 76119, phone 817-536-5537. She needs your name, address, phone number, church, email address and if you’d like childcare.  (Bring a sack lunch for the children.)

Blessings and Bring It!

Linda Hutchings

CTC UMW President
