Here we are at the beginning of Lent.  These are the 40 days we remember our Lord in the wilderness facing temptations, hunger and physical torment.  But He was filled with the Holy Spirit and was sustained by our great God.  May this be a time of reflection and renewal for each of you.

The Central Texas Conference United Methodist Women in partnership with the North Texas Conference United Methodist Women celebrated a wonderful and informative experience at Joshua UMC on February 16. Willie Bennett of Dallas Area Interfaith and Josephine Lopez Paul from Allied Communities of Tarrant (ACT) were the facilitators.  The topic of discussion was the many pressures on families today.  They led us to realize that we along with other like-minded institutions can make a difference in the lives of families when we join together.

ACT and Dallas Area Interfaith are having a 2-day training event in Arlington on March 8-9.  They are also organizing a bus trip to Austin, Tuesday, March 5, to join in a rally for the extension and expansion of Medicaid.  You’re invited to both events.  The buses will leave at 6am from St. Andrews UMC in Fort Worth and will return about 6pm.  Let me know if you’re interested in either or both of these so we can notify Josephine Lopez Paul.

The CTC UMW Spiritual Growth Retreat is March 15 - 16 at beautiful Lakeview Camp and Conference Center between Maypearl and Waxahachie, 5128 Hwy. 66.  “Unplug, Unwind, and Retool” is the theme selected by the retreat leader, Pat Hoerth, a United Methodist Deaconess and trained spiritual director.  Judy Holloway will be in charge of the music and will be using the Upper Room Worship Book.  If you have this resource, please bring it with you.  March 1 is the deadline for registering, so register today!  It will be a wonderful weekend retreat or you can attend Saturday only.  Register on-line at ctcumw.org or mail the registration form to Becky Brown, registrar.

Other upcoming Central Texas Conference United Methodist Women events are:

May 18 - Workday at United Community Centers – Gather at 9am at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School in Fort Worth before we disperse to the centers.  From I-35W take the Rosedale Exit and go east to the second light, turn left on New York and go 4 short blocks north.  You will end up directly in front of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church.  The school is right next door.  You will see Bethlehem Center on your left as you drive up New York.

June 10 – UMW Luncheon at Annual Conference will be at Arborlawn UMC.  Note the change of date to Monday.  Presale tickets only.  More details soon.

June 16 – 22 – CTC UMW Mission Trip to Sager Brown UMCOR Depot in Baldwin, LA.  Spaces are still available.  Contact Lynne Dechairo, 940-549-4230.

Lenten Love and Blessings,

Linda Hutchings, CTC UMW President
