Spring is Here
April 29, 2013, 10:02 AM

“Dear friends, I’m praying that all is well with you and that you enjoy good health in the same way that you prosper spiritually.  I have a lot to say to you, but I don’t want to use pen and ink.  I hope to see you soon, and we will speak face-to-face.” (3 John 1:2,13-14)

Spring is here and things are popping up not only in the garden and flowerbeds but also on our UMW calendars.  Great opportunities abound in your local UMW organizations, districts and in our conference.  I hope you take advantage of them.  Remember they are planned with you and missions in mind.

Coming up on Saturday, May 18, is the second annual CTC UMW Workday at United Community Centers.  We will gather at 9am at Our Mother of Mercy School just four blocks north of Rosedale and a couple blocks east of I-35.  We’ll begin there with light refreshments, words of encouragement, an idea of the work we’ll be doing, a blessing and then be on our way to the three centers.  We’ll go to Wesley Center on the north side of Fort Worth, Bethlehem Center just a block away or to Poly Center east on Rosedale to Texas Wesleyan University and a few blocks south.  We’ll have maps for you.  Wear your work clothes and bring a few friends and a sack lunch.  We’ll finish by 2pm.  Both a flyer and a registration form are available on the ctcumw.org website.

The CTC UMW Luncheon at Annual Conference is Monday, June 10, about noon.  Tickets are $12.50 each and are available from the district UMW presidents and me.  There will be presale tickets only, so be sure to get yours ahead of time.  After May 28 you can contact Lynne Grandstaff, East District UMW President, to reserve a ticket.  You will hear about the Storybook Project and about Styles and Smiles at the luncheon.  This would be a perfect time to bring your Mission Sparks items for United Community Centers and also new children’s books.  After the luncheon maps and hosts will be available for those who would like to tour Bethlehem and/or Poly United Community Centers.

Mission u, the new name for the School of Christian Mission, will be held in three sites in August.  More information will be coming soon but reserve the dates now.  August 5-7 Evening and Weekday classes are at Genesis UMC in Fort Worth.  August 9-11 Weekend classes are at Glen Lake Camp in Glen Rose.  August 12-14 Evening and Weekday classes at First UMC in Temple.

The studies are Living Sacramentally, Walking Justly; The Roma of Europe; and Poverty.  Migration is the study for youth and children.

To assist with the efforts in West, Texas please go to the ctcumc.org website.  It gives specific ways you and your United Methodist Women’s group can help.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Blessings and Peace be with you,

Linda Hutchings, CTC UMW President
